As a colorist for interiors, I create or simply recommend colors
for rooms. I hold BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design,
where I received the Florence Leif Award; and a MFA from the
University of Pennsylvania, where I studied with the master
landscape painter Neil Welliver, who had been a student of Joseph Albers.
I have a strong connection to color, especially for
the colors of Vermont, where I was raised.
With knowledge coming from work experience, and
an intuitive understanding of color I help clients figure out
which colors are most interesting and beautiful to them, be it
one or more colors per room, and one or more rooms per house.
The goal is to realize the best colors for each client.

Josephine McKee has worked for me as an interior design colorist for the past 10 years on many projects in residences that I share with my family in New York City and Fishers Island, NY. Her work for me has included conceiving colors for rooms based on my concepts, making color schemes with and without my input for groups of adjacent rooms, creating plaster and paint finish samples, and creating finishes following final decisions for color selections.
Josephine not only has created many luminous and colorful rooms, but her great knowledge of color relationships and her ability to create radiant, and deeply complex color has enriched my sense of what is possible. In the past I have worked with several well known decorators who are famous for their color sense but Josephine has proved to be far the most inventive and original. Her color surfaces, for which she has skillfully employed a number of plaster techniques, feel like color field paintings which give endless pleasure.
